Session 2

Trade Rules Under Strain:

Korea’s Policy Options in a Fragmenting Global Economy

With the Trump administration’s tariff offensive in full swing, South Korea must employ a more sophisticated economic strategy.

Given the high sensitivity of the Korean economy to U.S. trade policy and exchange rate fluctuations, preemptive responses to external shifts are essential.

Session 2 will assess external risks, including supply chain disruptions, technological hegemony, and currency volatility.

It will also explore new trade strategies, such as the Korea-China FTA and CPTPP, alongside internal policy mandates.

Dr. Randall Jones, who oversaw Korean affairs at the OECD for many years,

will deliver a presentation providing an objective, expert perspective on the Korean economy.
